The large overseas ships which have reached port from the American coast have encountered high winds

The cyclonic weather which delayed the Wanganella for 30 hours in her passage from Auckland to Sydney last week and retarded the Kaiwarra for throe’days on the journey froth Newcastle to Wellington, was rilsb' experienced by tDo Union Steam Ship Company's steamer Kartigi, of 2347 tons, which arrived at Auckland this afternoon, after a voyage of more than four and a-half days from -Westport. For 20 hours she was forced to lie hove-to about 70 miles off Cape Egmont, keeping her head up to the hurricane Weather which whipped up Cook Strait from east to south-east. A hatch platform was carried away, but no serious damage Was caused to

tho steamer which weathered tho heavy seas excellently. Tho rough weather has been responsible for delayed arrivals of two overseas steamers which will reach Auckland to-morrow. These are the German steamer Gera and the Union Company's vessel Waiotapu. The Gera, which is from New Orleans, is two days late, and the Waiotapu, from flic Pacific coast and Papeete, is threo days behind schedule.
