COW-MILKING CONTEST

WHANGAREI AMUSEMENT VICTORY TO MAYOR (Per Prnss Association.) WHANGAREI, this day. Over 1000 Whangarei residents had a laugh at the expense of prominent citizens who took part in a cow-milk-ing contest, one of the high lights of winter show week here. Despite rain a big crowd turned out to watch the fun. The Hon. P. Fraser, who earlier opened the exhibition, acted as judge and entered freely into the carnival spirit. Mr. W. Jones, the Mayor, was the first to empty an udder and he won in the rush to the judge, closely followed by Mr. li. W. James, the president of the Agricultural and Pastoral Society. A prize for the quality of the product was awarded to Mr. James after Mr. Fraser had called in referees to make a test. Their finding was such that Mr. Fraser announced it was understood the cow would be sold to a brewery firm.
