INTERVENTION BY POPE

DISPUTE IN POLAND KIND- CAROL’S VISIT COFFIN OF PILSUDSKI (Klee. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. June 30, 11.50 a.m.) WARSAW, June 29. The Pope has instructed the Papal Nuncio to receive King Carol of Rumania at Cracow during his visit to the cathedral to pay homage at Marshal Pilsudski’s tomb. This instruction follows the demonstrations resulting from the action of the septuagenarian Archbishop of Cracow, Monsignor Sapieha, who had removed the coffin from the cathedral when he learned that King Carol, who is a non-Catholic, intended to place a wreath on Marshal Pilsudski’s tomb.

Monsignor Sapieha is at present indisposed and was confined to the palace. It is variously supposed that he objected to the visit either because King Carol is not a Catholic, or because of the nature of his private life.
