STRICKLAND’S VERDICT

BARLUND DISQUALIFIED END IN SEVENTH ROUND (Reed. June 29, 3 p.m.) LONDON, June 28. The New Zealand boxer, Maurice Strickland, gained a decision against Gunnar Barlund, who was disqualified for holding in the seventh round of a 10-round bout at Earlscourt. Barlund attacked early, but Strickland used his right effectively. He held his own, exchanging punches freely. Barlund continued a fast two-handed attack, but with little success owing to Strickland’s clever defence. Barlund was cautioned for holding in the fifth round and a repetition of the offence brought his disqualification.
