AUCKLAND DRAINAGE
COMPREHENSIVE PROPOSALS INCREASE IN COSTS (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last, night. Conclusions based upon recent extensive investigations and tests to determine the most suitable locality in which to discharge the sewage from Hie proposed enlarged drainage area in the southern area of the Auckland metropolitan’ district, were submitted at a special meeting of the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board. A comprehensive report stated that it was practicable to establish and operate works at Brown’s Island to provide for the sewage flow from the southern arera, without causing any nuisance in the locality.
Tho estimated cost of the original scheme for the southern district, was £1,300,000, but. flic chairman announced that it would now bo necessary to add approximately 15 per cent to that figure to cover increased costs. The estimate for the northern area, comprising the four North Shore boroughs, was £315,000, but the scheme was not dealt with iu the report. The chairman gave notice of a special meeting to adopt the scheme for the southern area.
