(Humid Correspondent.) PALMERSTON N.. this day. "I cannot pass over a case of this kind without imposing punishment." stated Mr. Justice Reed in the Supremo Court, to-day, when a married woman. Amy Louisa (iraham, appeared for sentence, having pleaded guilty to a charge of attempting to injure, a neighbour's baity by placing caustic soda in the baby's milk. Counsel for the accused pleaded for probation on the grounds that the accused never intended the child to be injured and the state of her mind at the time.
His Honour: 1 cannot accept for one instant that a person in the habit of using caustic soda did not appreciate what a dreadful thing it would he for a child to get the poison in its mouth. The child might have died or have been injured for life, The accused was ordered to be detained for 15 months for reformative pur poses.
