While three single-seater Royal Air Force fighters were flying in formation over Hampshire one machine, which was slightly above the others, suddenly nose-dived, colliding with the others.

All three planes' crashed .and were shattered. -The debris _ was spread over an area of half a mile in length. Two of the pilots escaped by means of parachutes. The third was trapped in the cockpit of his machine and was killed.

The Royal Air Force death roll for 1937 is now 41.
