NEW DAIRY FACTORY
WAIROA PROPOSAL CAPACITY.OF 2000 TONS (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. The annual meeting of the Wairoa Co-operative Dairy Company's shareholders yesterday decided to erect a new factory to replace the present one, which has done service, with continual enlargement, for about 40 years. The decision of the meeting was prompted by a passage in the annual report which referred to the directors' reluctance to purchase new r plant until it could be properly housed under circumstances which would promote efficient working.
Negotiations have taken place recently for suitable sites, and it is hoped to secure one near the river and just! outside the borough boundary. With the great development of the dairy industry in Wairoa and district in the past- and the possibilities of the future, the directors would feel justified, no doubt, in making provision for a factory that would be able to handle an annual output of 2000 tons. The cost of the new factory has been estimated at between £BOOO and £BOOO.
Tho last monthly payment under free marketing was made during the week on July butterfat at 14d per lb. for finest. The total amount involved was £615.
