Mr! G. T. Cuthberfc, Gfslibrne, after attending the power 'board engineers' conference, in Wellington, will sail next Thursday, by the m.v. Wanganella for Melbourne at the invitation of the State Electricity Commission of Victoria. The. visit is being made to interview the commission concerning the appointment of the deputy electrical inspector to the Victorian Government. Mr. Cuthbert expects to make the round trip on the Wanganella, returning to Auckland on September 9.

Mr. G. !>• Nobbs, manager in Gisborne for the Commercial Bank of Australia, has received advice of his transfer to Westport. Mr. Nobbs has been AX years in the post of manager in Gisborne, and has formed a wide acquaintanceship in the district. The vacancy caused by his transfer will bo filled by Mr. A. F. Excell; well known to many of the bank's clients as a member of the staff which opened the Gisborne branch, Mr. Excell having been accountant, when tho Commercial Dank opened its business here. Later be was in Wanganui for some years, then- was transferred to Oamarn. For the past two years he has been manager in Hawera. Mrs. Excell is the elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I). G. Robertson, Gisborne.
At a gathering of flic staff of the Mangapapa scliool yesterday -Miss C. Miller was farewelled by her fellow teachers. The headmaster, Mr. 0. R. 01sen,in making a presentation to Miss Miller on behalf of the staff, referred to her long association with the school and the services slip had rendered, not only as a ieaeher but also in sporting activities. He expressed the hope thatshe would meet with continued success in her new appointment at Te Puke District High School. Other members of the statf also spoke in support of Mr. 01 son's remarks and Miss Miller suitably replied. Subsequently Miss Miller. was the recipient of a gift from the school basketball team, Miss Joan Harvey making the presentation,-
