Gisborne, August 19. 1936. Pamela Darling,— It's ages since I last wrote you, but the weeks simply fly past, and now that Mum has turned the housekeeping over to me I simply never have a minute to spare. 1 think 1 told you in my last letter how the family have solved the parking difficulty at leant lor groceries, by shopping at that nice clean nowly-fitted-oul shop of McKeague’s, up Gladstone i Road. Well. Dad discovered last week that they also have a similar shop in Ormond Road, so going out of town either route we can always get our stores in comfort. And such nice new fresh stores too. Mum’s having a big party tomorrow night, bridge and a table of Mah Jong. The usual crowd. Of course l had to do the supper. Nothing elaborate, but I wanted one tasty dish, so I bought some of McKeague’s oysters. My dear so cheap, 24 lovely oysters in a tin and ah for 1/-. I have made some delicious oyster savouries. Mum’s thrilled with them, and ! caught Dad sneaking one off the plate in the pantry. Also nice freshly ground coffee at 2/6 lb. Its much the most economical wav to buy coffee, and the flavour is so delectable. The ioke of our new shopping centre is that Dad, who dislikes changes and all that has fallen too. He came home yesterday with all his garden seeds and some flower seeds too, for Mum, which he admitted he had seen in McKeaque’s when he called in for a box of matches and some tobacco. He said he felt convinced that so up-to-date a shop would only have fresh, good quality seeds, and I’m sure he is right. He also got some new plant food which is said to bo excellent for bringing things along rapidly. Vivus Plant Manure it’s called, and is only 1/11 for seven pounds. “This manure speeds things up,” he says. “Pom, Pom.” You know how pompous and dictorial the old darling can be, but he does leva his garden. Life’s just full of fun these days, and shopping at McKenque's with a happy family shopping there too is just I,T. Yours over, PAT.
