RECORD WINTER SHOW

WIDESPREAD INTEREST MANY NEW MEMBERS COMPLIMENTARY REMARKS At the Winter Show being held in Messrs. Common, Shelton and Company’s woolstore in Peel street three records already have been broken—the number of entries in the show, and attendance records for Thursday and Friday evening sessions. The door takings are well up and it is expected that after the three sessions to-day another record may be broken. The show concludes this evening.

Many complimentary remarks were made yesterday to the .secretary, Mr. <J. M. Kay, on the variety of the exhibits and the manner in which they, were displayed. Among the visitors; wasi Mr. H. Maginness, ,of the Argentine, who*/was particularly interested in the garden and farm produce; sections. He. was astonished at. the outstanding quality of the produce grown in this district' and thought that the root, crops were almost unbeatable.

The crowds are not confining their visit to any particular section, as is proved by the fact. that .over-500 .votes TOr. ihe best trade display have been •. placed ip. the’ ballot box. The. result of the public vote will be.mad.e known from the.platform this' evening tiponthe; conclusion of the national dancing classes.' ;

Tlie sideshows again proved popular attractions last night, and, although it was thought by the committee, that a sufficient number of prizes- had been purchased, t-hev barelv'. lasted out the night. Ample stocks will be in the stalls this, evening.

Features of this evening’s programme v\ ill be the national dancing and the finals of the Poverty Bay ping-pong championship. In the latter feature the nine section winners will play off, and some polished table-tennis should jbe soon. It is reported that the demand for membership tickets has been large and the list of members is .increasingly rapid’v. No canvass has been made, but. apnlications have come in freely and it is thought that the membership figures soon will exceed ICO9.

The secretary regrets that the associa(inn has to record two cases of petty pilfering of exhibits. During the past 15 annual shows no similar case has-

occurred, and the police, are now keeping a careful watch. Prize-money may be collected at the secretary’s office in the show buildings any time after 7 o’clock this evening. A special prize donated anonymously for the keenest competitor was won by Mrs. E. Solomon. DOGS ALSATIAN Open dog (1 enlry): Mrs. F. Cokers Cruinstone Leo, 1. , Junior bitch (1 entry): Mrs. F.
