N.Z. LABOUR PARTY

GISBORNE BRANCH The Gisborne branch of (lie New Zealand Labour Party held its monthly meeting in the. Belvyn Hall oil Thursday evening, Mr. E. Harris presiding. There was a good attendance ot members and several new members were nominated.

The correspondence included a letter from the national secretary complimenting Hie. branch on its membership and the. very satisfactory balance-sheet forwarded 'to headquarters. An interesting and lengthy discussion l tool; place over the introduction of tile. 40-hour week. Members considered that it could be satisfactorily applied to all: industries, judging by the results in fae-i tones which have already voluntarily! introduced the shorter working week. j A handsome framed photograph of the; Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J.; Savage, was presented to the Gisborne branch of the party by one of its members.

Before closing the meeting the chairman reminded those interested ol the continuance of the discussion on Mr. H. H. Barker’s address “The Press and the Public,” to be held in Le'Grand Cafe on Monday next.
