COASTAL TRADE
THE RUN TO AUCKLAND MARGARET W. RESUMES The .Margaret W. yesterday visited Gisborne for the first time since site was taken off; the Auckland run four weeks ago to undergo an extensive overhaul. The coastal motor-ship has been eight years: in the service of the. Gisborne SheepFrozen Moat and Mercantile Company, Limited.
Perhaps file most outstanding improvement effected while the ship was being overhauled was the modernising of tier main .Diesel engine, which was brought completely up-to-date. As well as the fitting of a new fuel, ejecting system, new cylinder heads and new pistons, the cylinders were rebored and the crankshaft. which was repaired last year, replaced. The installation of a ship’s radio transmitting set. has proved to he of great advantage m notifying the Gisborne office of the ship’s movements and time of arrival. The range of the set, is not known, hut when off Tokomaru Bay in daylight on Thursday the ship had no difficulty in making contact with Auckland 200 miles away. The transmitting and receiving sets are. accommodated in the eahjn of the mate, Mr. B. Burk, who is in charge of the apparatus. The equipment- occupies only a small amount, of space.
