At the homo of their daughter, Mrs. Ualter Dob-on. In Gladstone street. Dannevirke. last week, the golden wedding of Mr and Mrs. Tom L. Mills, -of Feilding, was celebrated with a family gathering. Those, present with the celebrating couple were Mr. and' Mrs. Ralph Anker, of Creviown. and their six sons and daughter, Mr. and Airs. Dobson mid their son and two daughters, aud Aliss Marjorie X!ills. The family- of the only son of Air. and Mrs. Mills, the Into Ah William A. Bridge EveningOn Thursday evening Airs. A. F. Houston was hostess at a. charmingly arranged bridge party held at her home in Score road. Lovely bowls of hydrangeas, and vases of Iceland poppies intermingled with birch leaves, and nasturtiums were used to decorate the drawing-room, and a glowing fire, added to the atmosphere of charm. A delicious supper was served in tho dining-room, which was cosy with a bright fire, and decorated with nasturtiums, Iceland poppies and foliage. Tho hostess received her guests wearing a graceful frock of raisin brown velvet, cut on simple lines, and caught at each side of the square neck with crystal dress-clips. Afrs. AV. Young People’s Fancy Dress Dance A delightful young people’s fancy' dress dance was given by Airs. Claud Williams at her pretty country home, “Coventry.” Muriwai, on Tuesday night, arranged in honour of her daughter, Miss Patricia Williams, who was home for the school vacation.

The spacious, drawing-room made an ideal ballroom, decorations of autumn leaves and berries forming an effective setting for the happy young dancers dressed in their colourful and picturesque costumes. A sumptuous supper was served in the dining-room, which was effectively decorated with bowls of scarlet berries intermingled with asparagus fern. Enjoyable dance music was supplied by a wireless gramophone, while several delightful extras were played by Mrs. G. M. Dodgshun. Mrs. Williams welcomed her daughter’s friends wearing a graceful frock of floral crepe worn with a black velvet coaiee. Miss Patricia Williams looked charming in a frock representing ‘'Night.," made of midnight 'blue voile spangled with stars, and worn with a silver halfmoon on her hair.

Reid, who lias been Plunket. nurse in this district for a number of years and who is leaving shortly to take up an appointment in Featherston. was the guest oi honour at a very' jolly ping-pong party given by Airs, J. 0. Musgravo at her home, in Beach road. The guests were entertained in the sitting-room, which was beautifully decorated with bowls of hydrangeas and daphne. Bronze and gold African marigolds were used with artistic, effect for the decoration of the dining-room, where a delicious supper was served. Mrs. Ahisgrave received her guests wearing a becoming frock of deep red crepe-de-chine. The guest of honour chose a charming frock of figured crepe-de-chine in cherry and lemon tones. A very enjoyable afternoon was hold in Si. John's Hall. Mangagapa, by the St. John Ladies' Guild on Wednesday. The hostesses were Aiosdatnes C. Trowell, and C. Turnbull. A short business meeting was held prior to the social afternoon to complete arrangements for a llag five-hundred evening, which it was decided to hold at the homo of Mrs. Ellery in Stout street. .Members were reminded that the next aiiernobn would lie held in the St. •John's Hall on June 2d.

Two amusing competitions caused much interest. The first one. “Dressing a Clothes Peg to Represent a Butterfly,” brought forth some original ideas, the winner being Aliss H. Watkins, with Airs. Perry -second. The second one was equally interesting, the clothes peg being dressed to represent a doll, the winners being Mrs. Wallis, with Mrs. Wallace second.

A dainty afternoon tea was dispensed by the hostesses, who at tho conclusion of the gathering received a hearty vote of thanks, proposed by the vicepresident. Airs. Clare, and carried by acclamation. Plunket Nurse Farewelled The Gisborne Plunket committee entertained the Plunket mothers at a delightful afternoon at the Plunket rooms, Palmerston road, on Thursday afternoon, arranged to enable them to hid farewell to Nurse F. Reid, who has 'been the nurse here for a number of years and who has received notice of her transfer to Featherston. Bowls of green hydrangeas were used for the decoration of tho sitting-room, while the afternoon tea table, was adorned with a mixed bowls of African marigolds, gillardius and golden gleam nasturtiums. An apology for absence was received from Mrs. H. D. Chrisp. During the afternoon Mrs. T. D. Bramwell, on behalf of the. Plunket mothers, asked Aliss Reid to accept a handsome leather handbag as a tangible token, of their esteem, and expressed regret at losing Aliss Reid from their midst. Aliss Reid, in a few well chosen words, thanked Mrs. Bramwell, and the mothers for their beautiful gift. Among those present were Alesdantes AV. E. Goffe, E. L.’ Adams, J. S'. Wattchop, J. Blair, I. Kitchen Afternoon. Miss Joan Margolioutli, who is to be married next month to Mr. C. turner, Palmerston North, was the guest of honour at a most enjoyable “kitchen lea, given by Miss Barbara Kemp at her home in Russell street yesterday afternoon.

Bowls of chrysanthemums, African marigolds and autumn leaves were used for the decoration of the draw-ing-room, while a huge log fire added to the ehecrincss of the room. Afternoon tea was served in the diningroom, the table being adorned with a howl of Iceland poppies. After tea the guests returned to the drawing-room, where the guest of honour unwrapped her numerous parcels, revealing a useful collection of articles for the kitchen, for which she thanked her friends in ,u charming little speech.

Mrs. Kemp was wearing a becoming frock of raisin brown crepe trimmed with beige pleating. ’ Miss Kemp chose soft brown wool m.arocain cut on tailored lines.

A smart suit of brown angora, and a hat to tone was worn by the guest of honour.

Pre-Nuptial Bridge Party On Thursday afternoon Aliss Monica Alurphy gave a delightful bridge party at her home at Muriwai in honour of next month's popular bride-to-be, Miss Peggy Gunn, who is to be married to Mr. Iledley- Reeves, Tolaga Bay. Lovely bowls of roses and autumn foliage were used for the decoration of the drawing-room and dining-room, a delicious afternoon tea being served in the latter.

The guest of honour chose a smart suit of navy jersey cloth, trimmed with embroidery, and worn with a small navy hat.

Grant, Ormond road, who celebrated toeir golden wedding on Tuesday, and received many messages of congratulations and good wishes during the day, entertained their old friends at afternoon tea at their home on Tuesday afternoon. The sitting-room was prettily decorated with vases of autumn-tinted chrysanthemums and autumn foliage, and a happy time was spent in social ehut and reminiscences.

The ball held on Thursday night under the auspices of the Waikoitu Golf Club was an outstanding success, both from a social amt a financial point of view. The decorative scheme was skilfully carried mil with cherry blossoms, Chinese lanterns, streamers mid balloons, with hamtioo and toitoi grass arranged around the walls, and with pink shaded lights. The gay costumes worn by some of the. dancers lent the necessary Oriental at mosphere. Another eastern effect was given by a gong being sounded threi times before each dance. Everyone joined in the grand march, headed by the oagpipcs. played by Mr. Graham. The dance music was provided by Miss Rum’s orchestra, Afr. 8. Skeet playing much-appreciated extras. A dainty supper was served by an energetic bafid of ladic-s. The tables were gay with yellow and bronze chrysanthemums and autumn foliage, giving an attractive finish.
