TOKOMARU SAY NEWS

VALEDICTORY (Herald Correspondent.) The carved meeting-house To Hum Ki Rarotonga was the scene of a large gathering of people at Tokomaru Bav on Wednesday evening in honour of Mr. W. Brechin, who is leaving this district utter a sojourn of three and a-half years. His popularity was adequately proved by the large crowd which attended from this and other districts, and as the night, advanced (lie throng increased considerably. An orchestra, led by Mr. Harry Hantapn provided the ikuiee music. Dancing was interspersed with items by several soloists, and a popular feature of the evening was a bracket, of Maori action songs by a young Maori party led by Miss Ngawai. At. a suitable interval, Air. Dark, on behalf of all present, wished the guest of honour good luck and prosperity, and presented him with a token of appreciation from his friends. Mr. •). J. Mr. Brechin briefly replied and thanked ail lor their good wishes. Dancing then continued until a late hour, when all joined in a hearty chorus of “Aold Lang Syne,” terminating with the National Anthem.
