£16,000 TAX ARREARS
LONDON. Feb. 23. Limit.-. Commander Fletcher has given notice to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if his attention has been called to a recent bankruptcy case in which some C 16.000 arrears of income tax had accumulated over a period of years; and why such arrears were allowed to accumulate. Mr. Clarence Nathaniel Johnstone—formerly of Layton and Johnstone^—the coloured singer! was slated at his public examination last week to have been iUfj.COO in arreara of income tax.
