MURDER ALLEGATION
DEATH OF AUTHOR REVIEWER CHARGED LONDON, Feb. 17. A charge, of wilfully, murdering Douglas Boasc, an author, of Percy .street, Tottenham Court road, was preferred against Douglas Burton, 30, a book reviewer, of Hungerford road, Holloway, at North London police court on Saturday. Div.-Det. Inspector Wheatley stated that at 1 a.m. on Saturday, he told Burton he. would be. detained for the. attempted murder of Boasc by striking him on the head with a hammer. Burton said. "I admit it. I have written out a statement saying how badly he treated Sylvia Gough and 1 that is why 1 did it." At 2 a.m. he visited a house in Alwyne road, Canonbury, where lie found a hammer. There were bloodstains on a carpet near the door, and on the door and the door handle inside, and on a bed-spread upon n divan. Subsequently he again saw Burton and told him that Boaso had died at St. Leonards Hospital. He charged him with murder, and Burton replied, "1 deny' malice aforethought."
Burton was remanded for a week in custody.
