Miss Bergner's Next Film
I AUREN'CE Olivier is to play Orlando to Elisabeth Bergner's Rosalind in the new film version of "As You Like It." This appointment closes the competition for what is probably the most coveted prize in screen-acting in Britain to-day. No one who has seen Mr Olivier in his stage performances of Romeo and Morcutio can doubt that he has all the quality to play the part, and to play it, as Miss Bergnor would wish it, with passion and poetry. Dr Czinncr, Miss Bergner's husband and the director of the picture, is convinced that he has found the right man. "As You Like It" is on the floor at Elstree after ninny weeks' preliminary work on the script. Henry Ainley is to play the melancholy Jaques. His son, .Richard Ainley. will appear as Silvio, the shepherd boy. The whole film has been planned by Dr O.inner as a gay, lyric adventure of youth and morning, fitted to Bergner's light touch and the high adventure of her mood. 'The choice of Laurcfhce Olivier for Orlando is a subject of mutual congratulation. Mr Olivier is in no doubts about his own opportunity. He is at heart a stage actor, who has ordinarily little kindliness towards the cinema. But he welcomes the chance of playing, in any medium, with Miss Bergner.
ALICE Paye is working at an inven lion that should please many women. She is devising a shoe with a compartment to hold loose change. She thinks this is what girls have been looking for for years. With tho aid of a studio precision mechanic she hopes to perfect her idea and get it patenied.
