OVER 700 ATTEND

A HOST SUCCESSFUL DAY

Although weather conditions were not favorable, for the Waterside Workers C hion's annual picnic yesterday, two special trains were required to take the picnickers to the Park Domain,, wMe » it is estimated that in 'all over 70U people'gathered on the grounds. As a, result of the rain the programme was commenced later than the time scheduled, but with the sports controlled ' in the committee's usual capable manner leeway was soon made up, and, m fact. . some extra events had finally to be added. Undoubtedly fnuc.h ol the success of the outing was due to the efforts of the lion, secretary, Mrs George ( Thomas. Ho was ably assisted by the v committee, which comprised .Messrs. .h. Liudlev, chairman. W. Hanna, hon. treasurer, G. Sutton, P. Grogan, C. S. Shandley and J. McDonald, who also acted! as( judges of the sports events; Messrs. E. Feiton, S. Hanna and George Dunn; stewards; Messrs. F. Oaten, H. Martin. E. Mason and J. McKrlain. haudicappers; Messrs. B. Church, A. Wells and .1. Stewart, jun., starters; Messrs. J. Ahlin, A. Russ, P. Castle. E. Dunn. D. McCallum and J. Grogan. who took charge of the children's races; Messrs. J. V. Scott. W. Birkett and I. Webber, nail drivingRain fell during the morning, but the weather cleared shortly after midday and continued fine until just when the train was leaving for town. Following the usual custom, children from the Heiii Materoa Home were the guests of the union for the day. Music, provided bv the W.E.C.M.R. Band, was a pleasing" contribution to the days programme. > On behalf of the union s picnic committee, warmest thanks were extended to residents who donated cash and trophies for the picnic.
