NO EASY SOLUTION
EUROPEAN PROBLEMS
OVERHANGING MENACE
BRITAIN’S HIGH STANDARD
(Elec. Tel. Copyright—'United Press Assn.) LONDON, April b.
The Daily Telegraph's diplomatic correspondent, telegraphing from Prague, says he gathers that the Czechoslovakian Government maintains the attitude that it is not justified in concluding a pact of non-interference in Austria, unless it is assured that an eastern pact for mutual assistance will also bo effected. Mr. Anthony Eden, viewing the beautiful ancient city, might have seen, against the bulk of the cathedral, slender pencils pointing skywards. They are anti-aircraft guns, silent witnesses of the menace overhanging Europe, which Britain is trying to dispel. Nevertheless, the results of Mr. Eden s visits do not justify the hope that a solution will be easily found, although it is not suggested that a solution is impossible. The dominant impression left in tho British explorers’ minds is that Europe is anxious, rather than imminently alarmed. The tour left, a deep impression of Britain s prestige, proving that no nation is better qualified to sponsor any progress possible. The Times political correspondent says that Mr. Ramsay MacDonald will not attend the Stresa conference. If it is found possible to invite Germany to later meetings, Mr MacDonald’s presence might be desirable.
