Eyes and Beauty
A GOOD word was said for eye ” make-up by Dr. Mareelli Shaw, chief clinical assistant , and senior registrar of the ophthalmic .department of Guy’s Hospital at the New Health Society Summer School at, Malvern, England. * “I am often asked,” he said, “by my women patients whether eye cosmetics are harmful. They are not in the least harmful. A woman's eyes are often her most attractive charm, and their beauty may be enhanced by ,the. aid of cosmetics. No medical reason exists for discouraging ‘their use. .
. “.Some years ago 1 was sitting on a beach-when I saw a girl with, beautiful, eyebrows go into tlie, sea for a bathe.' When she came put she had no eyebrows. I decided then that eye cosmetics were to be encouraged. Very often women ask me, ‘May L pluck my eyebrows?’ and I tell them ro pluck their eyebrows as much as they like. There is no reason why they should not.”
Dr. Shaw, in answer to a question, said that the habit of putting” holla donna into the eyes was a pernicious one.
