A VARIED PROGRAMME WELCOMED BY EXSOLDIERS (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) MELBOURNE, Nov. 9. A programme of many contrasts was carried out by the Duke of Gloucester to-day. Beginning with an address to cadets at the Flinders naval depot, the Duke visited the Commercial Travellers’ Club and had conferred upon him the honor of "Knighthood of the Road.” The Duke’s next visit was to a confeience of the Empire Service League, where he was welcomed by men from all corners of the Empire, to whom he conveyed greetings from the Prince of Wales, whose message said that no part of his tour of 1920 had conveyed such happy memories as his meetings with exservicemen in Australia and New Zealand.
The Duke’s next engagement was at the polo matches on the Moonee Valley racecourse, where lie had luncheon with the officials. The Duke watched the ganfe for four hours, returning to attend the State' Government’s garden party. Later he was at the brilliant inaugural dinner to the new Lord Mayor.
