EAST CAPE NEWS
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE (Humid Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the East Cape Women’s Institute was held last week, and although the sky looked threatening iu the morning there was a very good attendance, two members only being absent. After formal business was disposed oi, members inspected the exhibition of articles made from salt-bags and of bread. The voting resulted as follows : Mrs. It. T. Kohere, for a pretty handhemstitched, decorated handkerchief, 1; Mosdames Pokai, Mulligan, and Misses Oha Kohere and Swinton, 2. For the best loaf of bread, Mrs. Mulligan was voted first, Mrs. Korohina and Miss Oha Kohere taking second place. At the invitation of the Rongornaitapui (Te Araroa) institute, the Matakaoa, Wharekahika and East Cape institutes gathered at Te Araroa to-day.
Miss Lucy Potaka, Wanganui, has joined the teaching staff of the Horoera School. Mr. E. H. Nepia has been on his own in teaching a roll number of 35, with all the primer classes and standards with the exception of Std. VL
