G.R.C. HANSEN FOURS KEEN FINAL CONTESTGOOD WIN FOR P, GAVIN The final of the Gisborne Rowing Club’s fpur : oar series for Mr. C. 0. Hansen’s trophies was rowed last, evening, and furnished a contest worthy of a series in which 18 crews, comprising 72 active members of t.lio c.lub, were engaged. The winners of. the lin a l turned up in the crew stroked by P. Gavin, this four beating T. Me Cal hi m’s by a length, this margin being gained mainly in an effective sprint over the last furlong. The race was rowed upstream, and the two boats got away very , smartly, McCallum shading his opponent a. little in the first dozen strokes, but. 'Gavin soon getting his boat going at top speed, and drawing level near Derby street. After they shot this bridge, Gavin took his boat to the front, and he had about one-third of a length’s advantage at the recreation ground. McCallum sprinted hard between Ballance street and Roebuck road bridges, and gained almost to even terms, but bis opponent held him then, and 1 was still admit Half a length in the lead a furlong from the finish. A very fast, burst was featured by Gavin from that point on, and the margin was extended to a full length as they passed tlie mile peg. The winners comprised P. Gavin, sir., S. Bruce, A. Waite and R. Kinder, while the losing four wore T. MeGalium, sir., P. Weir, G. Hall and E. Dow.

.At. a meeting of the Gisborne Row ing ('lull’s committee Hold last ecyning, advice was received of Iho fixing of l.lm dale for file annual inter-club regalia for the L.Y.A. and Pair-oar Shields, which will be held at Napier on February K>. The regatta is under the control of the Fast (toast Rowing Association, and the date has been selected with a view to facilitating the represem’ation of district clubs at the New Zealand championship regatta, to lie held at Auckland on March g.
