LORD MAYOR’S BALL

MELBOURNE FUNCTION A BRILLIANT EVENT (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Received Nov. G, 21 a.m.) • MELBOURNE, Nov. G. One of the most brilliant events of the centenary was the Lord Mayor’s jail last night. The Town Hall was transformed into a bushland scene. With trees and ferns, and a running brook cascading over a boulder-strewn course, the illusion was complete, even bush tracks winding among shady glades. The Duke of Gloucester attended and expressed his admiration of the ingenuity of the decorations. , . New Zealanders present included the Mayor of Christchurch, Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P., and the Mayor of Dunedin, 'the Rev. E. T. Cox. Among the visitors who arrived by the Monowai was General Sir Alex. Godley and General Sir Andrew Russell. They were welcomed by war comrades, and win take part in mili-tary-events at the centenary.
