A married couple nearly missed their passage to Sydney by the Mamma from Auckland on Friday, owing to the wife not being on board at sailing time, 3 o’clock. An hour before the woman
had left the vessel to do some shopping in the city. The husband remained on board with the luggage and tickets, and as time went by lie became obviously worried by the non-appearance of bis wife. The vessel was ready to sail when 3 o’clock struck, but the woman bad not returned and at the husband’s rnciuest the lowering of the gangway was delayed to give him time to get the luggage ashore, as he had decided to cancel bis passage.
