The resignation of the Government will 1)0 damn luted, by the Labor Opposition when the Native Afuiirs Commission s report is discussed in the House to-mor-row. It is exported that an amendment will he tabled on tliese. lines, tile Opposition taking the view that the long continued system which permitted the irregularities is more to blame than any individual Minister or State servant.
On the other hand the Government can take credit for promptly amending the law about a year ago, when the Auditor-General called attention to the comprehensive nature of * the Native Minister’s powers in relation to native land development scheme's and other operations, control being then transferred from the Minister to the Native Land Settlement Board, which has since actively functioned.
Sir Apirana Ngata is expected to take part in the debate, and to make a statement regarding Jus position, but his speech is likely to be one of the shortest in what is sure to ho a very long discussion.
