An English visitor at present in Christchurch had until this month waited nearly &0 years to see New Zealand. He is a retired geography lecturer, Mr. H. Swift, of Jersey, in the Channel Islands. In 1886 he read J. A. Froude’s well-known book, “Oceania,” and it ifii-ed him with m enthusiasm to see New: Zealand, which he still maintains near the end of his visit to the Dominion. He remarked soon after his arrival in Christchurch that he had never had a bejfcr time in his life. The ketch-rigged yacht, Seafarer, • which was in New Zealand waters early last year, is expected to leave Suva for Auckland on Saturday. She will carry a crew of four and the trip is being undertaken as a holiday cruise. It is intended to spend three or four months in New Zealand, and a considerable part of the time will be taken in cruising north of Auckland. On her last trip the Seafarer made the passage to Mangonui in 8£ days.
