Mrs Mary Heverne, who died ai Auckland a few days ago, aged Dl, was the widow of the late Mr F. E. Severin', a former superintendent of Mount Eden prison. Deceased came to New Zealand with her father, Mr ,1. ,L Robinson, an English solicitor, in 18GB.

The death occurred in September at Johannesburg of Dr. David Vaughan Thomas, a famous Welsh composer, who, as examiner for Trinity College of Music, visited No\y Zealand on three, different occasion:; within recent years, the last occasion being three years ago. ,\t the time of bis death lie was conducting examinations in South Africa.

Mr Thomas Law, who passed awav at Palmerston North recently, was well known in Hawke’s Bay. One of Auckland’s most familiar and respected personalities, Mr William Rattray, for (he past P.D years honorary secretary of the Auckland centre of the St. John Ambulance Association, died at his home on Wednesday, aged 82 years. lie had been in failing health for some time. It was announced that Mr Rattray had bequeathed one-fifth of his estate to the St. John Ambulance Association and another one-fifth io the New Zealand Mission Trust ‘Board of the Anglican fliureh.

While stationed at Unworn,' be was made chief dairy instructor for the North Island. He is survived by Mrs. M’Kenzie and two sous, Messrs. T). M'Kenzie (Tfaelihi) and ( ’. McKenzie (Palme.rston North).
