YESTERDAY’S RACE WON BY A. CHURCH The 17-mile road race conducted yesterday over the Waikirero circuit by the Professional Athletic and Cycling Club resulted' in a win for A. Church, who was closely followed by JB. .Jeffs. The race was the first of a series for tho Skcates and White Cu’p, which is to be won outright this season. There were seven starters, who left fium McLean street and proceeded out of town along Ormoml road. The greater part of the course was over bitumen surfacing and the riding was good, but a setcion of shingle road [Tom. King’s road around AVaihircre somewhat 'decreased the speed of the cyclists. During the race AT Davy had a. fall and retired. Fortunately, lie was not injured. The winner, A. Church, was in fine form. Leaving from the 2min. lOsec. mark, lie rode an excellent race to secure first place and fastest time, of blmin. 13 2-osec. E. Jeffs, who was on the same mark, came in two lengths behind Church and his time was only Ysec. more than the winner’s. D. Millicr, scr., also rode a good iacc, covering the course in jfimin. 15 2-sscc. The result of the race in detail was as follows:—A. 'Church (2min. 40sec.), time T>l min. 13 2-osce., lj E. Jofts (2min. 4050 c.). olniin. 15 2-osee., 2; 11. S. Davis (Smin., limit man), 3. Points for the Skcates and AVhitc Cup stand as follows:—Church, 5 points; Jeffs, 3; H. S. 'Davis, 2.
