SHIPPING MERGER

REDUCTION OF STAFFS (Eloc. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Received August 3,2 p.m.) LONDON, Aug 2. Two thousand employees of the White Star and Cunard companies have been dismissed following the merger. Sixty per cent, of the Cunard employees, and 40 per cent, of the ‘White Star ones will retain their jobs. Those dismissed include men with 40 years’ service.
