NORTH AUSTRALIA

GEOPHYSICAL SURVEY CANBERRA, March 14. When the Federal Cabinet meets in Sydney on March 20, it will consider a revised estimate of the cost of conducting a geophysical survey of North Australia and the northern parts of Queensland and Western Australia. About live months ago, the Cabinet agreed to provide £50,000 for this purjio.se on condition that the Government of Queensland and Western Australia together agreed to provide the same sum. Since then estimates have shown that the survey will cost £150,000. As both the State Governments have indicated that they are prepared to provide together £75,000, ii is regarded as certain that the Federal Cabinet will agree to increase its subsidy to £75,000. Should this’prove to be the case, immediate arrangements for conducting the survey will be made.
