I An indication of improvement in the timber trade was tin? departure recently from Hokitika of a special train drawing about 80.000 ft. of timber. Most of the timber, including a good proportion of red nine, was for shipment to Australia by the Kalingo. Some exceptionally 'good hauls of flounders were secured at Lake Ferry, Wairarapa, last week. One party is reported to have netted 450, and another 430, while other catches have been in tbo vicinity of 400.
