MOTU NEWS
(Herald Correspondent.) On Saturday night a very jolly dance, organised by the Motu basketball team, was held in the -Motu Hall. The team’s colors, black and gold, formed the foundation of the decorative scheme in the hall and supperroom, where euchre was played. Misses Eileen Mol'fatt, captain, and K. Hutchins, secretary, with a strong committee, deserve great praise for the success, both socially and financially, of the function. Mcsdames G. S. Bridge and F. Cleary, and Messrs. S. Grantham and T. Renapai were the musicians; Mr T. Jackson was M.C., and Mr F. Donaldson had charge of the euchre tournament. Prizes won during the evening were presented by Mr G. S. Caulton, who congratulated the team on their success attained at •basketball, which, he said, was one of the finest games for girls. On behalf of the committee he thanked all
who had helped to make the evening such a happy one, also Mrs Wright for making a cake which was competed for, and Mrs Richardson for icing it. The cake was iced to represent a basketball field, nine kewpics in black and gold frocks, a ball, and goal posts, giving it a realistic touch. Miss Rhiela Twisleton was the winner of the cake, and Mr J. Peddle won a towel. The spot waltz was won by Mrs F. Read and Airs P. Crawford; the Alonte Carlo waltz by Aliss K. Donaldson and R. Hansen. Aliss V. Cook and Airs F. Donaldson tied for first plaec at euchre and in the play-off Miss Cook proved victorious. Air F. Donaldson won the men’s prize; and Airs Wright and Air A. Gribben received other prizes. The monthly meeting of the Motu School Committee was hold last Friday night, there being a full attendance of members, with Air G. S. Caulton in the chair. Final arrangements for the concert to be held on December 15 were made. It was decided, also, to hold school sports and the picnic before the summer holidays commenced, an amount of £l2, the proceeds of euchre tournaments held durng the winter, being passed for payment of prizes and trophies, and other necessities.
