AMATEUR ATHLETICS

GISBORNE CLUB COMMITTEE At a meeting of the Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harriers’ Club’s commit, tee, Held last evening, there were present Messrs. C. McCoy, chairman, T. R. Gordon, F. McDonald, R,. Wildish, W. Wildish, W. Campbell, P. McMahon, J. M. Primrose, and J. E, Mercer, hon. secretary. A notice of his resignation from the committee, owing to difficulty he found in attending to the duties of the post, was received from Mr. W. Callaghan. The resignation was accepted with regret, eulogistic reference being made to the work done by Mr. Callaghan during His brief term on the executive.

Messrs. McCoy and Mercer were appointed a sub-committee to confer with the Wrestling Association regarding tho organisation of suitable afternoon matches, under tho amateur code.

Miss L. L. Rice’s application for membership was approved. Tho forthcoming inter-club competition between the Napier and Gisborne clubs, for the Hawke's Bay Herald Shield, to take place in Gisborne on December 17, was further discussed, and Mr. W. Wildish was authorised to draw up a programme for submission to the next meeting of the executive. It was explained that the programme would he considered by that body, and if approved, would be submitted to the officials of the Napier dub.

A suggestion was Forwarded by lady members of the club, to the effect that a series of flajg five hundred tournaments be organised in tile interests of the club. The ladies offered to make the n>-jissary arrangements, if the suggcstioiiJfcs approved. The committee gratenlny approved the. proposal, and the chairman commented warmly upon the evidences of interest among the lady members in the welfare of the club.
