A PROCLAMATION IN PIDGIN When Rabaul was annexed by the New Guinea Expeditionary Force in 1914 an extraordinary proclamation in pidgin • English was . read out . to the natives, said Mr. L. H. Nernairc when addressing the Legacy Club, Sydney. “All boys belongina one place you savvy big. master he pome-now, wasthe way the natives were told that Uic island had changed sovereignty. “He new fella master! he strong feller too much, you look him all ship stop place; he small feller ship belongina him.” The natives were promised that the "npw fella master liko. you feller” and would “look out good alonga him.” “You look .him. now feller flag, you savvy, him?” went on the proclamatin. “He. more better than other feller; he belonga British. British new feller master he liko him black feller man much. He liko him all same black feller plccanin alonga him. You no steal. Mary belongina other fellow man.
