NO MORE TAXATION
WOULD CRIPPLE INDUSTRY QUEENSLAND FINANCES A DEFICIT PREFERRED (Eloc. Tel, Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Received October 2, 11 a.m.) BRISBANE, October 2. The Treasurer, Mr. Barnes, informed Parliament that the State taxation would not be increased this financial year when bringing down the 1931-32 budget. Mr. Barnes expects a deficit of £1,871,159. He said every avenue had been explored, and it had been decided that to attempt- to effect a balance, or to raise additional revenue, would he futile. To impose additional burdens on commerce and industry would result m disaster. He budgeted for a revenue of Jb'13,829,558 and an expenditure of ±115,700,744. He forecasts a decrease ol £600,000 in the income tax and £23,000 m the land tax.
