PAY-ROLL ROBBERY
FURTHER £4O RECOVERED (Per Pross Association.) ROTORUA, last night. While probing the ground within a few yards of the spot where a largo portion of the stolen public works payroll of £2158 burgled from the office 'safe at Murupara camp on May 4 was discovered by a Maori forestry worker on September 4, two workmen on Wednesday afternoon felt the sharp instrument with which they wore probing, strike something hard. (in examination, it was found this was a. roll of notes of different denominations. Further search revealed that' the sum of approximately £4O had been buried beneath. loosely, silver, notes and copper all together. The discovery was immediately reported. Detective- While, of Hamilton, and Constable Roberts, of Rotorua, proceeded to Murupara to investigate. The police are very reticent, but state that they are making inquiries. They have refused to disclose the amount of money still, missing.
