SECOND EDITION. WOOL FOR NAPIER

SMALL GISBORNE TOTAL. RAIN DELAYS SHEARING A little more than a week ago it was anticipated that the 'catalogue for the secopd Napier sale ot the season, to take place next Wednesday, would he closed several days ago, for the wool was pouring into the stores at Napier very rapidly. Siuce then, however, a wet Spell m Hawke’s Bay has delayed shearing to a much greater extent than it has done in this district, and when inquiries were made this morning it was intimated that the catalogue had not yet .closed.

In the ordinary course of events, if the allocation has not been filled previously, the catalogue closes a week prior to the sale, but there appears to be so little wool available for next Wednesday’s auction that brokers may be holding off for the receipt of further wool. It is pointed out that there may bo sufficient wool in the Napier stores to till the allocation of 25,000 bales, but a number of growers are holding off in anticipation of a rise in values, and do not expect to offer their clips before January. Poverty Bay wool has been going forward much more slowly than is usually the case at this time of the year, and only a little more than 3300 hales have been shipped from Gisborne to Napier since the closing of the catalogue of the last sale there. This quantity weludes a certain proportion of wool that is not intended for next week’s auction, so that the Gisborne offering is expected to be a very small one. Gisborne wool offered at the last December sale ut Napier totalled 4466 bales, and for the sale in December, 1927, the total was 5928 bales.

It is reported that wool shipped from Gisborne to-morrow will be in time for inclusion in next week’s sale, lint most of the clips for this auction have been despatched already.
