Picnickers gathered in force in the neighborhood of Shark Bay, Wainui, yesterday in the hope of seeing a successful shark-hunt. Mr. C. Ferris., who on the previous Sunday had attempted to lure sharks into the, surf and within reach of his harpoon, was again at the beach, irilh an ample supply of hail in the form of freshly-killed stingray, but no sharks came within range, and the stale of the sea in the afternoon discouraged the hope of sighting any of the big fish. One shark Mas seen during the day. but failed to accept the invitation to come and gather stingray bail offered it by one party. The picnickers were given an opportunity of participating in a hangi, eating fopdjprepnred in a Maori oven in the old-time style. The fare was dolieiously cooked, and proved most enjoyable.
