AN EFFECTIVE APPEAL £640,000 NOW RAISED (British Official Wireless.) Rec. 10 a.m. RUGBY, Dec. 28. The manner in which the .broadcast sjtcecli of the Prince of Wales on f’liri st'm as Day appealed to the imagination of his listeners was further shown yesterday by the postbag of the Lord Mayor at Mansion House. The morning post alone brought in between 17,000 and 18,000 letters. The contents of these were dealt with by a special staff of clerks, 4ml throughout the day acknowledgments of gifts wore being sent out to the donors by every post. Last evening the Lord Mayor’s fund, including the promised Government contributions, amounted to over £649,009.
