Many records were broken at Christie's sale of 150 Old Masters for a total of £145,745. Reynolds' "Fourth Viscountess Towiisliond," and the "Vandyrk "Genoese Officer" went for 12,500 guineas each. A Titian portrait of Danielle Barbara realised 7200 guineas, and Zoffauy's picture, of Sir William Young's family, which probably will go to America, 7030 guineas. Turner drawings brought, a total of 21,904 guineas, ranging from 2400 to 7900 guineas each. A Komnoy portrait of .Mrs. Warren sold for 5800 guineas, and four Canalotto "' l paiutiiigs of Venetian scenes brought a total of 24,700 guineas, ranging from 100 to 0100 guineas each. The Canaletfo Quartette originally sold for £4O.
Sotheby's secured for £7OOO the tapestry panels, "Toilet of Venus," which 'the Russian basso, Chaliapin, was compelled to sell, owing to his losses in Russia.
