A continued decline in the building activity is shown by the annual returns for Napier. Last year's figures for the amount of work done were short of the previous year's level, and this year's total is less than last. The value of the work involved in the permits issued reached a total of £104,958, a decline of £20,172 5s on the value of buildings erected in l!)27. Napier's record year was 1923, the value then being £158,625 Bs, sr that on that year 1928 ; s figures show ;i falling off of well over £50,000.
