CHRISTMAS EVE BLAZE
14 SHOPS AND AN HOTEL SYDNEY, Dec. 25. Fourteen shops and an hotel in the business eentro of Trangic, on the Dubbo-Bourke railway, were burned -on Christmas Eve. The flames were fanned by a strong wind. There.is po fire brigade and no organised water supply. The residents formed- a bucket brigade and fought desperately from roof to roof, but their efforts Ho stem tho conflagration were futile. The damage is estimated at £70,000 to £BO,OOO, one firm losing Christinas stock valued at £25,000. Half the other side of the street was bumei| three months ago.. ANOTHER DISASTROUS FIRE SYDNEY, Dec. 26. _ A Griffiths message states that a store and premises owned by W. Carney were gutted by fire. The damage is estimated at £IO,OOO. ' ~A fire brigade, which was inaugurated last week but which was not officially to start duty until the New Year, turned out and rendered every assistance.
