FRENCH NAVAL SALUTE (Australian and N.Z. Press Association (Received Dec. 27, 11 a.m.) HONGKONG. Dec. 10. The French vessel Marne saluted Ihe Chinese gunboat Cliovu in the Y angtso River, off Nanking. 'The salute, was in connection with the signing on December 22 of the new tariff agreement between China and France. The Choyti, flying the insignia of the rear-admiral, returned the salute. Political circles commented on the tact that tlie French salute followed closely upon tho 21-gun salute given Britain ha cl formally recognised the Nationalist regime.
