ORMOND SPORTS
ANTICIPATED SUCCESS
An excellent programme of amateur athletic, horse, and novelty events Will comprise the sports meeting to be held under the auspices oi Die Ormond Sports Club at Ormond Domain on January 2. During the past two years the club has excluded all professional athletic events from the programme, in view of the splendid support received from the members of the Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harrier Club. The local amateurs look, upon the Ormond meeting a.s one of the chief sports functions during the holidays, although the club has (f>een unfortunate in having its gathering maned by rain in recent years. Nevertheless, it is anticipated that next' Wednesday s meeting will constitute a record for the club, as large fields have, been entered for practically every event. The dub has recently purchased an additional 10 acres adjoining its oilier grounds, and this is being converted mlo a suitable sports arena, with a natural grandstand running practically the length of the field. Both the cycling path and sprint track have been reconstructed, and should provide ample facilities for the. athletic section.
A feature of the meeting will be a 440yds. Indies’ relay competition, run on tho principal as adopted by the Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harrier Club, for trophies donated by Messrs. W. Wilson and D. Graham. The whole of the athletic section will be handled by the officials from the Gisborne Amateur Athletic Club, while Mr. C. Ferguson will lie responsible fur the catering. s
