KETCH HUANUI
DISCHARGE COMPLETED VESSEL SAILS TOR NAPIER The discharge of the auxiliary keteU liuanui's cargo of benzine was completed last evening by the crew of the vessel and members of Messrs. Clare and Clare's-clerical staff, and the vessel sailed in due course for Napier. The job of unloading the. cases and drums was carried out with dispatch, and nonunionist carriers yesterday removed a large portion of the cargo from the wharf to the stores. Though, all parties to the dispute over the ship, the owners, the waterside workers and the carriers—are reticent on certain phases'' of the, trouble, it is evident that the local developments arose out of the shipping of a nonunion crew at Wellington, to replace the four men who left the vessel just as she was about to cast off her lines after loading there. It is equally apparent that the Seamen's Federation is interested in the developments at Gisborne, since if was that industrial body which took up. with the owners of tho Huaviui the question of applying award conditions to the ketch. However., neither the Waterside Workers' Union nor the Carriers' Union at Gisbome has received any official notification of the trouble which aroso at Wellington, and the decision of members of the respective, unions to refrain from handling the Huanui's cargo must have been reached independently. A casg for inquiry exists it is stated, and presumably will be investigated. It was definitely ascertained to-day from the Labor [Department's local representative that the teims of the seamen's award do not apply to the Huanui at present. Therefore, there was nothing to prevent the owners shipping a non union crew to replace tho men who had left the ship at Wellington.
