TOO STRENUOUS
SOUTHERN CARNIVAL WEEK (Special to the Herald.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. ' The cmestion of making some change in the programme covering the November Carnival Week in Christchurch is likely to' engage the attention of tho controlling authorities before next season's fixtures are decided upon. The opinion is widely held in sporting circles that tho present strenuous programme might, be, curtailed with advantage, and it is suggested that tho Canterbury Jockey Club may decide to delete one day's racing from its four days' meeting," and increase the stakes of tho remaining three days. It would then be. possible to open the carnival on the Monday and bring it to a conclusion on Saturday, thua saving time for visitors from the north and south. The day dropped by tho C.J.C. could probably be transferred to the summer meeting, and the two days for that fixture would make it more attractive than at present for outside owners.
