RUSH FOR SELECTION IN W.A. YEWS, April VL It lias been a charge against tho Government for a long time that people within and without the State were unable to get agricultural land when they wanted it, that is to say, land adjacent to railway communication or in an area through which a railway would shortly pass. No doubt good virgin land has been scarce, for when single blocks have been thrown open there have, frequently been as many as 60 applicants for it. That, however, was not exactly the fault of tho Government, but was due to the fact that the funds available could not keep pace with tho requirements of the position. The earnestness of people who may desire .to settle Upon the land is now being put to the test. For the next 20 weeks 50 blocks per week will be thrown open for selection in an area of 1,000,000 acres, which has recently been surveyed and classified, and into which preparations are being made for the- construction of a. railway. So far as it has gone the .test has proved satisfactory, for no less than 300 persons sought to gain possession of the first 50' blocks, while an even greater number presented themselves for the second batch. Representative South Australians have also arrived with a, view to looking at. the laud and making an endeavor to secure some of il. In this connection it is interesting to nolo that, the estimated yield for last harvest was :ir>,720.00n bushels.
