BUSINESS AGENT SENTENCED BRISBANE, April 11. "A conscienceless scoundrel" was Judgo Macrossan's description of Joseph James Petrie, whom ho sentenced to six years' imprisonment for theft and false pretences. The police stated they had had numerous complaints of Petrie's activities as the "Greater Brisbane Real Estate Agency." Petrio was convicted on two charges of stealing £IOOO from William John O'Hagcn and £IOOO from Mary Marcclla Donnelly, and also with having obtained £IOO from each by false pretences. He also obtained money for the purchaso of an hotel at South Grafton. Judgo Macrossan passed sentence of threo years on Petrie in respect of each of four charges, and ordered that two should be cumulative and the others concurrent.
